ERASMUS+ INTERNSHIP

Are you a university student interested in gaining hands-on experience in Public Philosophy? Our Philosophy Department at the University of Galway welcomes applications from international students through the Erasmus+ Traineeship Programme. You can apply for an internship of between 2 and 6 months via your home university’s Erasmus+ office.

What We Offer:

As an intern, you will:

  • Audit our Public Philosophy module, with a particular focus on Philosophy for Children (P4C). This includes training in facilitation techniques and reflective practices.
  • Gain first-hand experience, planning and delivering CPI (community of philosophical inquiry) sessions in local primary schools, in collaboration with experienced practitioners.
  • Participate in public philosophy projects, such as CPI sessions with participants of different ages on campus or in public libraries, and festivals, through the AIRE Collective, an affiliate of our department. That explores areas such as: the moral value of attention, environmental ethics and climate change and community philosophy.

Tailored Internship experience

– Your role will be adapted to your background, interests, and the department’s needs at the time of your visit. Possible tasks include:

  • Assisting with the planning and preparation of CPI sessions
  • Co-delivering school sessions
  • Creating content such as podcasts or multimedia materials for AIRE and the department
  • Helping to organise public events for AIRE and the Department
  • Supporting the website and social media management
  • Engaging in wider research or community-based activities

However, your main focus will be training and practice in P4C. If you come during the academic semester (between September and April), you’ll be invited to audit our core public philosophy course and are welcome to attend other modules of interest.

WHY GALWAY?

Our department is a vibrant hub for public philosophy, particularly in P4C and environmental ethics. We prioritise hands-on, community-based projects that build bridges between academia and the city of Galway – known for its artistic culture, festivals, and civic engagement.
